THE AUCKLAND EXCHANGE ADVANCE IN UNION BANKS A feature of dealing on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday was a sharp rise in Union Hank shares. A transfer at £lO 2s 6cl established an advance of lis 6d, buyers later offering £lO, but sellers withdrew. This is the first time the issue has sold at over £'lo in Auckland for several years, although levels have recently . been slightly higher in the South. New Zcalamls eased Id to 41 s lid. Reflecting the recent strength of pastorals was a sale of Dalgetys 5s higher at £lO ss. South British Insurance were easier, dropping (3d in dealing at i'-s (3d. Shareholders' satisfaction of the bonifs distribution for Westport Coals was shown in a transaction at 26s -id. a rise of .'3s 9d. New Zealand Breweries dropped back 9d to 52s (3d. ]n the miscellaneous group. Consolidated Bricks declined, selling twice lid cheaper at 10s 4d. Moth the New Zealand and Sydney issues of Woolworths mounted steadily, the former moving np 2s on the day. O. J. Coles changed hands lower, but there was a firmer tendency in British Tobaccos.
