SEA WALL AT MILFORD
CONSTRUCTION OPPOSED A suggestion by the Mayor, Mr. J. Guiniven, that approximately £SOO be spent on the construction of a wall on the sea frontage of Milford Reserve was opposed at last night's meeting of the Takapuna Borough Council. " There are streets in this borough which are no less than a disgrace," said Mr. W. M. White, when speaking against the motion, " and yet in addition to former grants of £6OO and £l5O toward the cost of the Milford swimming bath, the Mayor proposes to s|>cnd a further £SOO. 1 move as an amendment that this matter be deferred until the new financial year." Mr. Guiniven said Takapuna depended for its progress on its beaches and the additional population they brought to the borough. To spend tho sum proposed would not be squandering it, as the money spent would return to the borough indirectly. Mr. White's amendment was carried by six votes to four.
