APPRECIATION OF WORK [from OUR OWN" correspondent] WHANGAREI. Monday At the conclusion of the official opening of the new "Whangarei Municipal Library building in Rust Lane on Thursday afternoon, the Mayor, Mr. W. Jones, and councillors, entertained the visitors, representatives of local bodies and their wives, and those who have been associated with the library during past years, at afternoon tea in the Settlers' Hotel. The guests were received by the Mayoress, Mrs. W. Jones, who was assisted by Mrs. L. 0. Hall. Mrs. J. E. Holmes, widow of the late Mr. J. E. Holmes, a former member of the Borough Council and Mayor, was presented with an easy chair and cushion in appreciation of her long service as a member of the library committee. The presentation was made by the Mayoress, who stated that Mrs. Holmes had done a Kreat deal to promote the success of the library over a period of many years. The Mayor also announced that Mr. A. T. Brainsbv, chairman of the library committee, hail been elected a life member in recognition of his long and valuable work 011 the committee. Among the ladies present were:— Mrs. W. Jones, Mrs. F. \V. Briggs, Mrs. Hill, Mrs. J. E. Holmes. Mrs. R. H. Harrison, Mrs. J. F. Brown, Mrs. H. C. Rishworth, Mrs. A. P. Morgan, Mrs. A. England, Mrs. G. H. Morrish, Mrs. E. G. W. Tibbits, Mrs. W. J.
