ROTORUA-TAUPO ROAD
WIDENING IN PROGRESS REMOVING DANGER SPOTS [BY TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] ItOTORUA, Monday Extensive widening on one of the few remaining narrow sections of the Potorua-Taupo main highway is at present being carried out by the Public Works Department between Wairakei and Taupo, where several gangs of men are engaged in cutting back the sharper corners and realigning the road. In the past the narrow and winding nature of the greater part of the eight miles from Wairakei to the Taupo township has made it necessary for drivers to exercise the greatest caution. When the present work is completed many of the danger-spots will bo eliminated. About live miles of the route between the portion laid in bitumen last year and the Waimtingu turn-off was recently repumiced preparatory to the extension of the sealing this year. When this work is done there will bo a length of 14 miles of bitumenised road from Rotorua toward Taupo.
