ATTRACTIVE FEATURES LARGE DISPLAY OF ORCHIDS Always tho most popular feature of the annual exhibitions of the Auckland Horticultural Society, the rose show, which will be officially opened in the Toivn Hall this afternoon, promises to eclipse those of former years in several respects. Jn addition to 300 square feet of table space to be occupied by roses grown all over tho province, from as far south as To Kowhai, there will be a record pans.y section and enlarged decorative features. Several special displays have been arranged, chief among them being an exquisite collection of orchids, regarded as the finest ever staged in Auckland. Hundreds of these delicate flowers of (soft tints, some of which have never been cultivated previously, are included in the bank, provided bv Mr. P. C. Mappin, of Mountain Road. The central plant, 6ft. in spread, lends an additional touch of beauty to the stand, bordered by ferns, turf and rocks. Flowers and shrubs from municipal parks will be exhibited in customary fashion on the stage by the City Council. Irises arid peon ; os in many new colours, variegated lupin and broom stems, and other unusual blooms, ineluding a Brazilian flro tree, will be among the entries from Mrs. 1?. L. Tlrquhart'3 Wychwood Nurseries, of Rotorua. Particularising in bright colours, ji rose stand from H. J. Cutler and Son, Limited, of New Lynn, will be notable for pink and crimson pot-grown climbing roses, never before shown. A table of the latest shades in delphiniums and watsonias. from Miss 10. Whiteley's nursery at Otahuliu, should also attract considerable interest.
