FATE OF WOMAN REWARD OF £3OO OFFERED INQUIRIES IN AUCKLAND Tifiorts are being made to establish the ownership of a gold locket and the identity of a young woman whose photograph it contains, found near the scene ol the brutal murder of a woman, aged 61, at her home in Auburn. Sydney, on October 0. The New South Wales Government has offered a reward of £3OO for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the murderer, and has asked the Auckland police for its co-operation. The murdered woman was Mrs. Edna Andrews. Her son, aged .'il, was reading at the back of the house at about 11.30 p.m. on October 0, awaiting his mother's return from shopping in Sydney. He heard movements outside and thought the (logs were dragging rubbish about. He went to drive them awa.v and was knocked unconscious by a heavy blow on the head. When lie recovered he was lying on the lawn. Ho went into the house and found the body of his mother in the hall. She had been struck twice on the back of the head. The weapon cotdd not be found. Drawers in various parts of the house were ransacked and various articles were lying about in confusion. A curious feature was that expensive jewellery 011 the woman's body was untouched. Last April she shared the major prize in a State lottery. Near the scene of the crime was found an old-fashioned gold locket brooch of star pattern, and under the pin at the back was a small glass-fronted container holding the photograph of the head of a young woman. It was shown to Mrs. Andrews' relatives, but no information as to the ownership could be given.
