POWER BOARD AFFAIRS

THE BAY OF PLENTY RADIO FOR OUTSIDE STAFF [by TET.KGRAPH —OWN" correspondent] OPOTIKI, Wednesday The chairman of the Bay of Plenty Power Board, Mr. J. B. Gow, reported at the meeting of the board yesterday that Associated Fibres (New Zealand), Limited, had agreed through their agent, Air. Bunn, to the board's alternative proposal, and the agreement had been signed by Mr. Bunn on behalf of the company. A discussion took place concerning the misunderstanding and Mr. Bunn's published statement, and the board authorised the chairman to make a statement to the press on the subject. The engineer referred to the use of radio for the outside staff, stating that he had received a letter from the Telegraph Department offering a definite wavelength. The engineer was instructed to report on the whole position as soon as possible. The engineer, in his half-yearly report, stated that the sale of electricity amounted to £20,045, an increase of £351. Owing to the alteration in the price for current it was pointed out that the estimated reduction in revenue would be £IOOO. CENTRAL BOARD BUSY MANY NEW SERVICES [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Wednesday A busy month was experienced by the Central Waikato Electric-Power Board during October, according to a report submitted by the engineermanager, Mr. J. R. Ellis, at a meeting to-day. The 11,000-volt extension along the Wainui Road had been completed and connected up and consumers' installations were in hand, said the engineer. A similar line had been erected along Howden's Road. Arrangements had been made to connect the Waikato Land Settlement Society's block at Karikiriki, while extensions had been surveyed along the Waitetuna Valley and Herbert's Road, Rotongaro. Street lights had been put into service at Glen Massey. An offer had been received from the Public Works Department to charge an alternative rate for supply. While a saving of only £7 14s lid annually would be effected, the advantages included continuity of supply and flexibility. The engineer recommended that the offer should be accepted, and this was done. The total number of consumers connected with the board's services was 5547.
