TASMAN FLIGHT
MR. CLARK DELAYED UNFAVOURABLE WEATHER OFFER TO SEEK LOST LAUNCH (Received November 12, 1.5 a.m.) SYDNEY. Nov. 11 The New Zealand farnicr-airinan, Mr. E. Clark, will not be able to take oil' to-morrow for New Zealand, as the weather is most unfavourable, but he entertains a hope of leaving on Friday between !i and 4 a.m. He lias received official consent to leave from Richmond Aerodrome. Mr. Clark received a cablegram from Now Zealand to-day saying that his sheep are wot and shearing therefore has been postponed. Consequently, there is not the same need for him to hurry home. In the meantime the airman has offered his services to search from the air for the missing cruising launch Viking, and the offer has been gratefully accepted by the Board of Control of Lord Howe Island. The matter is now in the hands of the Minister of Defence at Canberra, Sir Archdale Parkhill, whose consent is expected to-night. In that event Mr. Clark will fly to Lord Howe Island and back to-morrow, and make a careful search. He will take provisions and water bags in case he should sight the missing crew. LANDING ARRANGEMENTS CHRISTCHURCH AERODROME [by TELEGRAPH —OWN correspondent] CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday The Canterbury Aero Club is desirous that Mr. L. E. Clark, the Canterbury farmer, who has flown from England to Australia in 10 days, and proposes to ily the Tasman this week, should be accorded a fitting reception on arrival at Wigram aerodrome. Club officials pointed out this morning that while Mr. Clark's time to Australia did not approach that of Misi Jean Batten and other record-breakers, lie was living a much lower-powered machine and was not making the trip with any intention of breaking records. Nevertheless, his performance was rated high, for when ho left New Zealand Mr. Clark was still a junior pilot with only 25 hours' flying to his credit. A cable message received from Sydney yesterday announced that Mr. Clark would land at Sockburn. He is expected to reach there about 5.30 o'clock on the afternoon of the day he chooses for the flight.
