GOVERNMENT'S PROPOSALS DOMINION BEAUTY SPOTS [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] TE AROIIA, Wednesday Evidence of the Government's proposals for tho extension of its activities in connection with tho encouragement of tourist traffic was revealed in letters received locally from the manager of tho Department of Tourist and Publicity, in which it was intimated' that the Government had* taken over tho business of Film Craft, Limited, and now proposed to co-operate with local authorities in the production of scenic films. Under the suggested scheme tho Department's 1; photographers would visit local districts and take moving pictures. Suitable sound effects and dialogue would later bo added and the films would-be shown throughout New Zealand theatres. Additional copies would bei exhibited on ships travelling to New Zealand and others would be despatched to numerous overseas organisations in England, Australia, Canada and America. Smaller sized copies would be availablo for distribution through schools, universities, and travel organisations whilo "stills" would be availablo for reproduction as picturo postcards. Tho cost of-each film and copies was estimated at £IBO, which it was suggested be shared equally between tho Department and tho locality concerned. The matter of To Aroha's participation in the scheme was before the Chamber of Commerce last evening and whilo that body expressed its approval oL tho project, it lacked tho necessary ffinds. It was decided to lay all tbo correspondence before the Borough Council with tho recommendation that legislative authority bo sought for the striking of a special rate for. .advertising and developmental purposes,
