HOSTEL FOR MAORIS
URGENT HAMILTON NEED PRINCESS TE PUEA'S PLANS 1 [from our own correspondent] HAMILTON, Wednesday The need for a hostel for the accommodation of Maoris visiting Hamilton was stressed by Princess Te Puea Herangi to-day.-She announced her intention of having a hostel built as soon as the house for King Koroki was completed at Ngaruawahia. Princess To Puea said that Maoris frequently came to Hamilton to visit friends in the hospital or to obtain medical attention themselves, and there was no place in which they could stay a night. Maoris were not wanted by boardinghouse-keepers, and they were frequently forced to spend the night in the open. The question of erecting a hostel for Maoris in Hamilton was considered by the Health Department some years ago, but no action was taken.
