VAST LIMESTONE CAVES
DISCOVERY !M TRANSVAAL GRIM NATIVE LEGENDS [from owr own correspondent] CAPETOWN, August 4 Vast limestone caves, where once a whole tribe was tortured to death by a Swazi impi and where treasure hunters came to look for lost gold ornaments and hoards of ivory, have been discovered two miles from the main road to the Kruger National Park in the Transvaal.
Native legends tel] that these "Leopard Caves" are a place of death and disaster. But the explorer's fears are soon charmed away by the flashing whiteness of the beautiful stalactites and staligniites. Twisted into weird shapes, they suggest fanciful names: The Praying Baboon, the Frozen Serpent, the Charging Elephant, the Witch Doctor Skeleton or the Spirit Lion's Paw.
It is suggested that these caves be ■ made into & new South African tourist •>
attraction.
