DETAILS OF OWN HOURS SHOP MANAGER CONVICTED [by telegraph—OWN correspondent] WHANGAREI. Monday "This may serve to draw the attention of the business people to this particular section of the law, which I am sure is not commonly known," said Mr. G. N. Morris, S.M., in the Magistrate's Court to-day, when E. J. Dunne was charged that, being the occupier of a Bhop, he failed to show in the wages-book the hours during which u shop assistant had been employed. The inspector of awards, Mr. C. P. Collins, said defendant was a branch manager for a firm. Under tlio recent amendment to the Shops and Offices Act, however, as defendant was paid loss than £6 a week, he was classed as a shop assistant, and had failed to keep a record of his own overtime. He asked for a nominal penalty only, as as warning to others. The magistrate convicted defendant and ordered him to pay costs.
