WHANGAREI NEWS
An enjoyable surprise party was held at the residence of Dr. and Mrs. D. J. Goodwin, Hank Street, Whangarei, the occasion being Dr. Goodwin's birthday. Bridge was played, four tables being occupied. Those present were:—Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Glanvilie, Mr. and Mrs. Eric Thomson, Mr. and Mrs. It. K . Trimmer, Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Crawford, Mr. and Mrs. H. It. Crane, Mrs. W. T. Surman, Miss Madge Finlayson. The combined drama and musical circles of the Whangarei women's institutes entertained Mrs. C. Clark at the Balmoral Tearooms on Thursday afternoon, on the eve of her departure from Whangarei for Hastings. Mrs. Hirtzell, president of the institute, presided, and presented Mrs. Clark with a crystal powder bowl from the members, also with a bouquet of violets and anemones. A successful bazaar was held at Port land by the Portland Bees for the purpose of raising funds for the Sunshino Fund, Auckland, the sum of approximately £5 10s being netted.
