DIVORCE OPPOSED
PETITION OF HUSBAND ALLEGATIONS BY WIFE [BT TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Monday A petition for divorce was brought by George William Willey in the Supreme Court at Wellington to-day. It was opposed by his wife on the ground that their separation was caused' by petitioner's wrongful conduct. Respondent alleged that trouble began when her husband developed a friendship with a married woman, and began to neglect and ill-treat respondent. Cross-examined, respondent said she had agreed to take divorce proceedings if given her home in Kelburn. and £6OO. She said she did not want to be divorced and considered she was a ■wronged woman. She denied saying she would see her husband's business ruined over the case, and also that she see him bankrupt, as she bad made bankrupt a former fiance, from whom she had claimed £SOOO for breach of promise. That, she said, was many years ago, and those proceedings were taken at her parents' wish. Evidence that strained relations existed between petitioner and his wife in 1931 was: given by»Mrtya Amelia Clark, who was employed in the household for three months that year. Johanna Osten, who was employed in the household for four weeks in 1932, said petitioner and respondent h«id meals together only when guests ware present. Once she heard them quarrelling. She heard Mrs. Willey scream. When she saw her a few minutes later she had marks on her face. The hearing .wstp adjourned until toJnorrow."':
