PUBLIC WORKS MINISTER
AUCKLAND ENGAGEMENTS Tho Hon. R. Semple, Minister of Public Works, arrived in Auckland on Saturday morning. Part of the purpose of Mr. Semple's visit is to give his assistance to tho Labour candidate for tho Manukau seat, Mr. A. G. Osborne. The Minister spoke at Mr. Osborne'6 meeting at the Methodist Hall, Greenwood's Corner, on Saturday night, and he addressed a Labour rally in the State Theatre last night. This morning Mr. Semple will discuss with representatives of tho City Council the proposal that the city should acquire the site of the old post oflico in Shortland Street. In the afternoon he is to confer with representatives of tho Citj' Council and adjacent local bodies on tho subject of tho contributions to be made toward the cost of the proposed Ridgeway Road on tho Waitakero Ranges. Tho Minister will again speak in support of Mr. Osborne's candidature at a Labour rally to , be. held in tho Southern Cross Theatre at EHerdlie to-night. Deputations are to wait on the Minister to-morrow, and in " the' evening he will leave for Wellington by the limited express. !
