WEDDING

BEGG—STOKES A wedding of wide interest was celebrated at St. Mark's Church, Remuera, on Saturday afternoon, when Miss Joan Meredith Stokes, second daughter of Mrs. J. M. Stokes and the late Mr. Stokes, of Arney Road, Remuera, was married to Mr. Denovau Gowan Begg, of Auckland, younger son -of Mrs. Arthur Begg and the late Mr. Begg, ot Melbourne. The Rev. P. Houghton performed the ceremony and the wedding music was played by Mr. A. Pascoe. The bride, who was given away by her brother-in-law, Dr. D. C. Macdiarmid/ wore a graceful gown of silver lame made with long tight-fitting sleeves and a square neckline, the two front corners of which were caught with brooches of orange blossom. The tight-fitting skirt formed a circular train, the front being fashioned with diagonal tucks to the waistline. Her veil of Indian hand-made lace (an heirloom) was mounted over silver-coloured tulle and was arranged on the head with a plaited silver lame head-dress. She carried a shower bouquet of white hyacinths and cyclamen. _ln attendance as bridesmaids were Miss Kathleen Stokes, sister, of the bride, and Miss Dorothy McCoy. They were dressed alike in most attractive frocks of soft sky blue cloque threaded with silver, the square necks of the bodices being ornamented with corded collars slightly upturned at the back. Long leg-of-mutton sleeves gave a quaint effect, while the skirts were inset with sunray pleating at the back and front. The.v wore tiny side-sprays of silver lame gladioli on their heads, and each had a spray of silver lame gladioli on the corsage, carrying, instead of flowers, the bridegroom's gift of silver beaded bags. The bridegroom was attended by Mr. Murray Chinchin as Dest ruin and •by Mr. Miles Masfen as groomsman. Acting as ushers were Mr. Keith Buchanan and Mr. Jack Marriott. Following the ceremony a cocktail party was held at the nome of the bride, Mrs. Stokes receiving the guests in a frock of black satin and a black straw hat finished at the back with a big chou of black tulle. On her frock she wore a shoulder spray of white and blue hyacinths. Mrs. D. C. Macdiarmid, sister of the bride, was in a navy linen lace ensemble and a navy taffetas hat, and Mrs. K. R. Buchanan, also a sister of the bride, wore a suit with a royal blue crepe do chine skirt and st'iped jumper of blue crepe de chine and net. With it she wore a navy jockey hat. Mrs. Kenneth Begg (Wellington) was wearing a frock of black figured crepe de chine and small black hat with an eje veil. For going away the bride wore a navy and white spotted frock 'with a widely-revered jacket to match, and a navy taffetas jockey hat.
