Several gallops were done on the No. 1 grass, which was rapidly drying under a strong north-westerly. Imposture (E. Peck) and Spiral (P. Morrison) covered seven furlongs at 'a little better than three-quarter pace. Imposture appeared to be eager to improve the pace throughout. She is in good heart for her Wanganui Guineas engagement. Entfieos was given strong pace-work on an inside track and the Gainscourt gelding hit out well. Ho has developed into a solid customer. Entheos was brought through with Laughing Lass, Limulus, The Buzzer and Middle, owing to the Marton tracks being unworkable after ■ Thursday night's heavy fall of snow and Friday's hail-storm. All look well and were given useful work. Hamarin (P. Morrison), Missal (E. Peck) and The Tramp (F. Latham) were sent four furlongs, but tho start was rather straggling. The first two furlongs took 255, and the trio by this time had ranged abreast, The Tramp having a shade the best,of it at the finish in 51 4-ss. Red Manfred (P. Atkins), from almost a standing start, registered 1.19 1-5 for six furlongs and finished in good styde. He took 14s for the initial furlong and ran the last five in 1.5 1-5. It was an excellent effort.

The two-year-olds from Rayner's stable, Scarf Dance and Icing, had the Arausio filly, Jolly, as their companion in a working gallop overdfaur furlongs with the pace on over the first two in 26 3-ss. They finished together. Neither Brazen King nor Grand Jury was required to make time, the pair being sent once round at a solid pace, brushing home up the straight. Brazen King is in great nick. Parakino finished in front of the Kiosk gelding Amatory at tho end of two furlongs in 265. Entail, who appears to bo responding to Rayner's treatment for soreness, apparently in a shoulder muscle, was .given useful pace work. Two visiting horses, Silver Brier and May Song, got through solid pacework, the former hitting out well. Another visitor, Surella, with trainer J. Cruse up, also worked on tho inside at a useful pace, and apparently has been improved by his outing at Pakuranga. The Surveyor colt claims an engagement in the Durie Hack Handicap on Thursday, and will not lack friends.

The most impressive gallop of the morning was that of the three-year-olds Karl (Gilmore) and Mandamus (Atkins), who were responsible for six furlongs in 1.18 3-5. They took 14s from practically a standing start for the first furlong, but ran the next in 12s, and the half-mile was left behind in 50 3-ss. It was a good Guineas trial for Karl, who appeared to have something in reserve at the finish. All going well in the meantime Karl ,is to contest the Flying Handicap on Thursday.
