RUNNING DESCRIBED HURDLES TO ROYAL PAL [by telegraph OWN correspondent] DUNEDIN, Saturday The Otago Hunt Club's meeting was held in comparatively fine weather after the snowfall, but the day was not inviting. The going was responsible for many scratchings, and no less than 29 horses were struck out of the flat races. Santoft started favourite for the Sea View Hunters' Hurdles, but did not run up to expectations. Master Anomaly went away with a good lead, but beat himself, and at the last hurdle Chrysology and Royal Pal had closed up. Royal Pal came through in the run home and won comfortably, with Santoft third. Havering tailed off early in the race. Janet Gaynor took charge early in the Brockvillo Trotting Handicap and led to the straight, where she failed to stall off a challenge from Jackarack, who won narrowly. Walter Gay, Ayrshire, Sinbad and Mantle Song were handy in the early stages, and Marsceres showed speed, but broke up. Royal Grattan also tangled

Shillelagh Wood and Burglar had the Otago Hunt Club to themselves over the final mile. Shillelagh Wood had too much pace for Burglar. Royston- was in charge when he went to the first fence, but dropped his rider. Quinopal and Cock o' the North fell and Prince Tractor, after making the early pace, faded. The others found the journey and the going beyond them.

Scratching were numerous in the President's Handicap, from which 12 of the 24 were withdrawn. Stratosphere began smartly and was two lengths in front of Slayer and Wild Career. Paladino also began well, but soon dropped back. Last Dance did not go away and Call Money and Fog Peak dwelt. Stratosphere led into the straight, where Silver Lark stayed on under pressure and won decisively from Paladino, who drew up and beat Stratosphere. Wild Career, after being prominent, faded into fourth place. The well-supported Travenna won the Tally Ho Handicap. Cheap Money led out from Travenna, who was followed bv Mount Val, Daring Deed, Queen Dorothy and Acla. Travenna waited behind Cheap Money to the home turn and then came away to win decisively , from Mount Val, who beat Queen •Dorothy by five lengths. Acla was next. Mars'ceres appeared to be waiting with the field in the Wingatui Trot innd, after Hytemoana had temporarily headed him on sufferance, came away >to win comfortably. ■ In the Hunters', Flat Smoko and Pink Paper made the running from Acena to the homo turn. Smoko then came away and won very easily from Acena, who beat Pink Paper by a good margin. Braw Lad looked a winner as tliev straightened up in the Vauxhall Handicap, but floundered in the dip, and Illora drew away to beat him by two lengths. Silver Slipper stayed on to finish third.
