CHURCH FURNISHINGS

SERVICE OF DEDICATION A special service attended by a large congregation was held in Knox Church, Parnell, yesterday morning, when the gifts of a Communion table and nine chairs were dedicated to the service of the church. The table is the gift of Mrs. R. Compston and family, Onehunga, in memory her mother, the late Mrs. Mary Melville Davidson, who died in August of last year, and the chairs have been given by various members of the congregation. The minister's chair, which is slightly larger than the others, has the emblem of the Presbyterian Church, the Burning Bush, carved on the back. There was also given a pulpit scarf of blue, goldfringed, and with the church emblem beautifully worked on it.

The tables and chairs are of solid polished oak, and the whole servico makes a valuable and fitting addition to the furnishings of the church. To accommodate the table and chairs, it has been necessary to enlarge the platform immediately in front of the pulpit. The . floor is covered with a rich blue felt, and a curtain of the same blue colour has been .placed in front of the organ, the whole effect being in perfect harmony. The Rev. G. A. D. Spence preached a sermon appropriate to the occasion, and after he had' offered prayer of dedication all joined in singing the Doxology.
