THAMES VALLEY DEFEATED 'EASY WIN FOR WAIKATO Rugby competitions were continued in country centres in the Auckland Province on Saturday. In a representative match at Morrinsville Waikato secured an easy victory over Thames Valley. Following are accounts of the matches forwarded by Herald correspondents: Morrinsville.—Although without'the services of Wynyard and Best, Waikato defeated Thames Valley by 30 points to 3. Thames Valley was a big disappointment after its win against North Auckland, and only H. Robinson, halfback, showed any ability. For Waikato H. Settle made a successful debut, but. J. Aitken was missed at centre-threequarfer. The first try went to Waikato five minutes from the start, when Russell secured from tho scrum and went ten yards on his own. Three more tries, by Carroll, Reid and J. Leeson, were scored for Waikato before half-time. Waikato made most of the play in the second half, and tries were scored by Holmes, Settle and Reid (2). Pardington converted two and Carroll one. Thames Valley's only try was by -Clotworthy. Outstanding for Waikato were J. Leeson, Sharpe, Muir and Taylor in the forwards, and Griffiths and Enssell in the backs. Robinson, Childs, Edmonds and Hughes were the best of a poor Thames Valley team. Other results were: Feast Cup, Morrinsville referees, t), Hamilton referees, 5; Old Boys, third grade, (5, Ponsonby, intermediate grade, 5. Hamilton.—ln the final of tho Clarke Cup knock-out competition, Old Boys defeated Technical Old Boys by 9 points to 3. Both teams had been weakened by the absence of players selected for the representative game at Morrinsville. After about 20 minutes of even play Sundberg scored for Old Boys, securing possession from an attempted field goal. Paterson failed to convert, making the half-time score: Old Boys. 3; Technical, 0. Early in the second spell Paterson kicked an excellent penalty goal for Old Boys. Old Boys' final points came from a forward movement, Jones making an opening for Thomas to score in tho corner. Technical secured its only points when Stevens ran smartly down the line for an unconverted try.

Cisborno.—Fino weather was experienced on Saturday when Poverty Bay defeated Wellington Colts by 19 points to 10. For tho first few minutes spectators were given a good exhibition of back play, but the game soon became a contest between the forwards. In the second half Wellington scored from a nice back movement and from then onwards good back play was witnessed. Poverty Bay was superior in the forwards, its players being more experienced and feeding the backs well. The local backs' play, however, was inferior fo that of the inside backs of Wellington, whose play was more penetrating. The kickins: of O'Connor, the Wellington fullback, was a feature of the game, one penalty being converted from near the line eight yards inside the half-way line. Cambridge.—After a game which was all in favour of Hautapu in the first half, and definitely to the advantage of Northern after the spell, Hautapu won the junior championship by 8 points to 3. For tho victors L. Kidd and F. Hicks scored and Watt converted one try. Northern's three points came from a penalty kick by Trubshaw. Tauranga.—ln a match for the TehurinuiApanui Memorial Shield the challengers, Eangitaiki, defeated Tauranga by 19 points to O. At half-time ltangitaiki led by six points to nil, tries being scored by M. Howell and E. Hohapatu. In tho second half tries for ltangitaiki were registered by It. Lees (2) and Renata, one being converted by P. Howell and one by E. Howell. The two sets of forwards were evenly matched, but Jtangitaiki's backs were superior on attack. After the match Mr. K. J. Rennie. president of the Tauranga Rugby Union, presented the shield to E. Howell, captain of Rangitaiki. The curtain-raiser between the Country Club (Opotiki) and Matapihi (Tauranga) junior teams for the Mcintosh Shield was won by Matapihi by HJ points to 12.

Whakatane.—A challenge match for the Bracken Cup was played by Paeroa on the Whakatane Domain. Weather conditions were perfect and there was a good attendance. Poroporo was successful in its challenge, winning by 14 points to 0. Poroporo played a fine combined game, bnt Paeroa was below its usual form. Tries were scored by L. Ormond (2) and Rangikotoru. B. Mato kicked a penalty goal and L. Ormond converted a try. Rangikotoru was an elusive halfback and B. Mate (forward) and B. Moeke (five-eighths) were the pick of a good team. A challenge for tho Wilson Cup from Ruatoki was successful, tho team defeating the holders, Poroporo, by 8 points, to 0. Wharepapa and Riddle scored tries. D. Wilson converting one. Whangarei.—The only match played under the jurisdiction of the Whangarei Rugby Union was the junior championship fixture in which Onerahi, 13, defeated Hiknrangi, 7. The result of the match decided tho championship, which was won by Onerahi. Huntly.—Seniors: Auckland Marist, 29, Taupiri representatives, 10. Juniors: Knockout final, Iluntly, 0, Kainui, 0. Manukau.—Under ideal conditions and before a good attendanco the Manukau senior representatives defeated the Mangatawhiri team by 10 points to 5 at Papakura. Tho game was disappointing. Tries for Manukau were scored by Dillon, Baird and Munro. Picard kicked a penalty goal and E. Cossey converted two tries. Dew scored a try for the visitors, which was converted by R. Dean. Mr. G. W. Wrightson, Manurewa, was referee. The junior representatives journeyed to Pukekohe and were beaten by the home side by 12 points to 9. Howick. —The annual match botween Turners and Growers, Limited, and the Howick Club was played before a good crowd, An interesting and evenly contested game ended in a draw, each side scoring 3 points. Pukekohe.'—A team of South Auckland referees played a team representing tho Frank- 1 lin Power Board at Bledisloe Park. For a veterans' matA, tho play was fairly lively, there being quite a few good movements and no lack of incident. The Power Board players proved the better footballers. J. Woods, G. Moyle and C. Stoupe registered tries and R. Lynn converted one, giving Power Board a victory by 11 points to nil. Thames.—South Auckland (Pukekohe) suffered defeat by Thimes in an interesting and close game by 13 points to 9. Thames won the toss and started with good passing rushes, but South Auckland cleared. Abraham (Thames) and Moffatt and Blackie (South Auckland) were ordered off at this stage. Billing (Thames) had an opportunity from a passing rush ni.-d scored behind the posts Savage converting. Thames, 5; South Auckland, 0. Following a kick South Auckland

made a good rash and Bell went over for a try. The kick failed. Thames, 5; South Auckland, 3. From a line-ont Poland (Thames) broke away and from a penalty Savage's kick was not successful. In the second spell play was even for some time. Eventually Paris, halfback, dived over. The kick failed. South Auckland, 6; Thames, 5. Then from a forward rush T. Abraham scored well. The kick failed. Thames, 8; South Auckland, 0. A good passing bout enabled L. Wright (South Auckland) to cross the line. The kick failed. South Auckland, 9; Thames, 8. Thames pressed and a clever cut-in by Cleave enabled Goodwin to score. Savage kicked a fine goal. There was no further scoring, the game ending:-—-Thames, 13: South Auckland, 9. Other results were: Ramblers, 15, Tairua. 3; High School, 24, Old Boys, 3. Rangiriri.—Poharama Cup: Itangiriri (holders), 12, Taupiri (challengers), O. Tauplri.—Marist easily defeated the Taupiri representative team at Huntly by 32 points to ID. The visitors played bright, open football, many of their passing bouts being most spectacular. In contrast to the homo backs, the visitors ran straight and backed up well. Hardy was outstanding, scoring four tries. Mcllugh, McGrory and Bailey got through a lot of work in the forwards. The winner's points were made up of tries by Hardy (4), Toy (2), Curtayne, Irvine, Bell Booth and Fitzpatrick, Curtayne converting one. For the losing team Hood, Johnston and Bull in the forwards, and Taylor, O'Hearn and Robinson, in the backs, played up to standard. Tene scored aftor beating several opponents, for Hood to convert with a beautiful kick. L. Davis picked up near the lino and scored, Hood again converting.
