RELIEF WORK DISPUTE
TROUBLE AT NAPIER POSSIBILITY OF SETTLEMENT [BY TELKGRArH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] NAPIER, Sunday There is every likelihood that the No. 5 scheme relief workers in Napier who have been on strike during the past week will return to work to-mor-row morning. It is understood the men have decided to resume work as a result of directions which they have received from Wellington.
A representative of the men communicated with Mr. W. E. Barnard, M.P., in Wellington regarding the wishes of the men and asking that the matter should be taken up with the Government. Mr. Barnard, in reply, indicated that the Government would definitely not consider granting the men sustenance during the period for which they remained on strike. He urged the men to resume work and expressed surprise at the action which they had taken.
