BARQUE WINTERHUDE

VISIT TO AUCKLAND ARRIVAL ABOUT CHRISTMAS Once again Auckland is to bo visited by one of the few remaining sailing ships of the high seas. The Finnish barque Winterhude is to load at the Seychelles Islands during October and November for Auckland, according to advice received by A. S. Paterson and Company, Limited, local agent 3. As her cargo of guano will be shipped from the islands by lighters, the vessel's actual time of departure will be dependent upon the weather. Under normal conditions the Winterhude should arrive here about Christmas time.

This will not be the first time the barque has been seen in: this port. She was here for about four weeks in January and February of 1933. On that occasion two other sailing ships, the Passat and the Magdalene Vinnen, also arrived while the Winterhude was here. At the end of her stay, in an impromptu race to Wallaroo, South Australia, with the Passat, also a Finnish barque, the Winterhude won by a margin of two days.
