AMERICANS' FLIGHT

ROUND TRIP TO LONDON DOUBLE JOURNEY ATTEMPTED (Received September -4, 12.35 a.m.) NEW YORK, Sept. 3 A well-known American commercial air pilot, Mr. R. Merrill, took off today from New York on the first roundtrip to London. He is flying a monoplane, which has been christened the Lady Peace, and has as passenger a vaudeville artist, Mr. Harry Richman. The fliers hope to reach London at noon and will set out on the return journey immediately after refuelling. They are confident that both ways they will take loss time than did Colonel Charles Lindbergh on his flight to Paris on May 80, 1927, whpn he covered an estimated distance of 3600 miles in 331 hours. A message from London states that it is unlikely that the men will reach Croydon until 3 p.m. as there is heavy rain on tho eastern side of tho Atlan tic and conditions . are bad over the Irish Sea.
