CLERKS IN FREEZING WORKS
Sir, —Could you please inform me whether the staff employed in freezing companies' offices are exempt from payment for overtime worked in excess of their usual hours? Are clerical workers in freezing companies' offices exempt from the overtime provisions of the Shops and Offices Act? Inquirer. [Freezing works are specially exempted from the Factories Act, and their clerical workers do not come within the scope of the Shops and Offices Act, which sets closing hours for offices and makes provision for overtime payments. That would not prevent them from being subject to any award intended to affect clerical workers generally. —Editor, Herald.]
