STRUCK BY TRAIN
MOTOR-VAN AT CROSSING DRIVER'S LUCKY ESCAPE Stopping at the edge of the railway track on the St. Jude Street crossing at Avondale at about 5.53 last night, when a train was nearly upon him, a vandriver, Mr. Mark Borich, of 51 Wakefield Street, City, was lucky to escape with his life, the train tearing a front wheel off the van as it passed. The van suffered very little other damage and Mr. Borich, who owns it and was the only occupant, was not hurt.. The train, which left Auckland at 5.22 p.m. for Waitakero, was delayed for nine minutes as a result of the accident.
