INSTITUTE AFFAIRS
Te Uku.—Airs. Moore presided over a good attendance of members. Mrs. Hollo way gave a very interesting address on the work of the National Council of Women, and Miss Silcock on the "Calf and Lamb Club." Mrs. Parlane congratulated Te Uku on their success at tlio Waikato Winter Show. A collection of Gd per member was taken up for the Crippled Children's Fund. The competitions for the roll of honour were won as follows: Bowl of violets, Mrs. Dent; and pikelets, Mrs. A. Moon.
Waimiha. —The first birthday celebration of the institute was held recently. The vice-president, Mrs. Wicks, presided. Competitions wero won by Mrs. Payton and songs and recitations by Mrs. T. Jones and Mrs. Davis wero enjoyed. A competition for flaky pastry was won by Mrs. Middleton and another for flowers by Mrs. Burgess, To Kowhai.—Mrs. Seal spoke on behalf of the Society for Prevention of Qruelty to Animals and a collection was made for the society. A competition was won by Mrs. R. Stewart and the prize for a smocked article by Mrs. Mcßride. Songs were given by Mesdames Porter, Welch and Wilson, of Ngaruawahia. Manawaru. —The president, Mrs. Waugh, presided at the monthly meeting. Competitions were won by Mrs. Koch and Mrs. Smarden. The hostesses were Mrs. Peteson and Mrs. Hughes. Waimauku.—The August meeting was held in the hall, Mrs. P. Cane presiding in the absence of the president. A talk on the institutes was given by Miss Blake, and Mrs. Hunt, of Albany, gave a demonstration of ruffle cushion making. The hostesses were Mrs. Robertson, Mrs. 13. Fletcher and Mra. 0. Fletcher. Waiuku.—The monthly meeting was held in tlio public hall, tho president,, Mrs. Madill, presiding. Members of tho Homai Institute wero present and gave an entertainment. The arts and crafts circle had on view a table of exhibits, and the junior circle*exhibited a book of Now Zealand flora. Cut-out garments wero distributed by Mrs. Eddy at the winter cheer table, and Mrs. Arvidson, Mrs. Hayes and Mrs. James were in charge of tho trading stall. The hostesses were Mrs. Muir and Miss Hosking. Taneatua. —At the August meeting, presided over by an address on prison life was given by Mr. Stewart, a social worker. The hostesses were Mvb. Merrie, Mrs. Prince and Miss Foster.
