MARIST TEAM'S SUCCESS In a well-ront«sted game Marist narrowly defeated Mount, Albert, which was unlucky to lose its captain, L. Schultz. at a crucial stage of the frame. However. Marist deserved its victory for its consistent play in both spells. The Marist forwards played well in the loose. Until Srhultz retired, the Mount Albert backs had a little the better of the game, and they did most, of tho attacking. The score was 5-all at half-time. ... , The Marist backs settled down quickly and plaved <rood combined football, and they were unlucky" not, to score on several occasions. Fortune did not favour Mount Albert, wnich, besides losing L. Schultz, had to replace J.'Schultz, who received a leg injury. From this stage onward the Marist backs had numerous opportunities, but good defence kept the scores down. On one occasion Keane broke dean away, but a wild pass cost Marist a try. A few minutes later Aro initiated a nice passing bout. A dropped pass held up the movement, but Haslam centred, 3nd Loader raced On to touch down for a spectacular try. Play was exciting for some time after Herring scored his second try, which equalised the scores. In the concluding stages Marist dominated the game, and its backs threw the ball about in good style. Eventually List scored tile winning try from a forward movement, and Marist won a well-contested, althOtigh 'riot' spectacular, game. Glover played a sound game at fullback for Marist and did an amount of useful work in defence, Haslam-was the best back on the ground. His powerful, straight running often caught the defence at a disadvantage, while his fine tackling was a feature of the game. Ar6, at halfback, also played a splendid game. He showed good all-round ability when going oa his own. Both the wings, Reeves and Loader, played good games. The five-eighths, Bakalich and Chalmers, did good work on attack. The Marist forwards excelled in the loose, Anderson, Finlayfcon and Keane being mbfi.promiirent. ■ ; • , • For Mount Albert the best back was Evans, who replaced L. Schnlt2. He made several fine openings, but he lacked support. Halliwell, at fullback, was a little uncertain in his handling. 'Watkins, behind the scrum, played a verv sound game. Herring was easily best forward, and ho was outstanding in the loose; Both his tries were the result of good anticipation. Shadbolt and Constable also played For .Marist, Aro, Loader and List spared tries. Anderson converted one and kicked a penalty * goal.
