SUM OP £SO STOLEN CASHBOX TAKEN AWAY CAFE PROPRIETOR'S LOSS A cashbox containing between £45 and £SO in notes and silver, besides receipts and other papers, was stolen from the Royal Cafe, Victoria Stieet, at some time between 11 p.m. on Saturday and 1.30 a.m. yesterday. The theft was a particularly audacious one, for the cashbox, which contained the takings for the week, was taken from a shelf underneath a table in the kitchen while the proprietor, Mr. J. Urlich, was actually working there. Mr. Urlich did not discover his loss until shortly before closing time, when he went to get the night's takings from the cash register and place them in the cashbox.
The cafe was crowded at the period in which the theft is thought to have been committed, and Mr. (Jrlich considers it likely that the cashbox must have been stolen while he was working with his back turned to the table. The the£t was reported to the police, and investigations are being made by a member of the detective staff.
