SALES TAX RECORD
HIGH RETURN IN JUNE BENEFIT TO THE TREASURY Improvement in internal business conditions in New Zealand is fully reflected in the increasing buoyancy of the sales tax yield. Collections during June amounted to a record of £241,154, although the yields in the mid-year months are not usually the highest. The June yield was £7661 higher than in May and £44,583 above that for June, 1935. As an instance of the increasing value of the tax to the Consolidated Fund, total collections for the first three months of the current financial year were £709,138, an increase of £126,275, or 22 per cent over the .AprilJune period in 1935-36. If the rate of increase is maintained, the yield for the full financial year should exceed £3,000,000. The Minister of Finance, the Hon. W. Nosh, is budgeting for a yield of £2,900.000.
