WIDE SEARCH

MISSING ACCOUNTANT EFFORTS AGAIN FRUITLESS PARTIES ON WEST COAST Although the search for the missing accountant, Mr. Eric M. Edgar, who has been missing from his home at 12 Ellerton Road, Mount Eden, since last Monday, was continued vigorously at the West Coast during the week-end, no trace of him was found. A police party under Constable Boag, of New Lynn, was assisted by members of the various tram pi Jig clubs, Auckland members of the Ruapehu Ski Club, and local residents. Large parties of trampers had their headquarters at the huts of the Auckland Tramping Club and the Alpine Sports Club, while another party was centred at Anawhata. During Saturday and yesterday trampers thoroughly combed the bush country and streams, and searched the beachline as far as the tide would permit, from Karekare to Bethell's. This part of the search involved some ticklish climbing on steep cliff faces, and there were very few places along the sea-front that were not reached. Another party spent the day scanning the surf from Lion Rock, Piha. An object was seen in the water, but before it came near enough for the watchers to make out what it was it drifted out to sea again.

Constable Boag and a party which included two constables from the city and Mr. R. Harrison, of Wellington, brother-in-law of Mr. Edgar, yesterday travelled over 10 miles along Muriwai Beach by car without result. The party later returned to Piha and searched the caves at the north end of Piha Beach. It has been discovered that after Mr. Edgar was seen near Lion Rock by Mr. C. E. Le Grice on Monday afternoon, he was seen by a woman walking along toward the north end of the beach. The various parties assembled at Piha late yesterday afternoon, but all reported a fruitless day's search. The police will again visit the Coast during the week in a further effort to find Mr. Edgar.
