BRITAIN'S DEBTORS
Sir, —Mr. J. H. Beale, in the Heeald of August 1, doubts the statement that Britain is more generous to her foreign debtors than to tlio.se of her Umpire. Here are a few instances taken from a recent statement made by the President of the Board of Trade in the House of Commons:— Britain has invested in Argentina the sum of £435,000,000, and received in 19135 interest £8,500,000. Brazil oives £190,000.000, and paid in IU3o interest £3,500,000. Other South American States owe £160,000.000 and paid interest Inst year £.'3,250,000. This works out at less than 2 per cent. We are paying on many of our loans 4J to 5} per cent. As tho Prime Minister states, in exports, we are paying double what we were paying when the loans were raised. H. G. Smith.
