Hosking, at the 15th annual meeting of the Franklin Racing Club last evening at the decision of the Racing Conference to approve of the Bay of Islands Racing Club's annual meeting being held on Coronation Day, May 12, on the Pukekohe course. Mr. Hosking stated that during the year £916 had been spent in maintenance and improvements to the racecourse property, including levelling of the members' enclosure. In addition, a ladies' room had been erected and improvements to the totalisator building were under way. A contract had been let for the erection of new offices and the removal of tho present building, which was to be used as a members' and stewards' stand. A suitable public stand could not be built for the money tlie club was at present prepared to allocate, and the alternative scheme of permanent improvements had meanwhile been put in hand.

"I fully realise the necessity for shelter and seating accommodation for our patrons, and provision will require to bo made in this direction at the earliest opportunity," the president added.

The Franklin Racing Club was now the leading one-day club, both as regards totalisator turnover and tho amount given in stakes. A tribute was paid by Mr. Hosking to tho work of the vice-president, Mr It. Fulton, as chairman of tho course committeo, and to the assistance given by other members of that committee. The meeting was largely attended, about 70 members being present. Mr. Claud Motion, a member of the Auckland District Committee, and a former president of the club, tendered congratulations on the progress made. The balance-sheet showed £10,037 as tho surplus of assets over liabilities. Cash assets amounted to £4437. A ballot for the election of 12 committeemen resulted in tho return of Messrs. J. Beatt.v, A. F. Brown, G. Carter, S. J. Clews. W. Dazeley, J. Hall, A. Jones, J. N. Massey, J. Mclntvre, F. Parker, J. J. Reynolds and P. L. Short. PAKURANGA HUNT RACES CLOSING OF NOMINATIONS Nominations for all events at the Pukuranga Hunt races at Ellorslie on August 22 close with the race-meeting secretary, Mr. W. S. Spence, at 5 p.m. on Friday. TE AWAMUTU TROTTERS GOOD NUMBER IN WORK Mr. Geo. Paul. To Awamutu, who owns the Nelson Derby gelding in C. G. Lee's stable, was a visitor to Epsom yesterday. Mr. Paul stated there was a revival in trotting in To Awamutu, and lie did not remember so many horses being worked at any previous period during the winter months. He attributed this to tho early meetings at Cambridgo and Auckland. Mr. Paul has a filly by Wrack —Paradox in work and, like * her full-brother, Ruin, h|io is double-gaitcd. FRENCH CHAMPION GOOD FORM OF MIEUXCE Micuxce, winner of the French Derby and Grand Prix do Paris, almost occupies tho samo position in tho opinion of the French racing public as Brantomo ditl until his unhappy journey to Ascot last year. Ho has not, built up tho unbroken sequence that tho Blandford colt diil, for, although placed in all three starts, he did not win a race as a juvenile last year; but ho made great progress during the winter, and his only defeat in six races this year was excusable, as he was badly away and then went near victory.
