WHANGAREI BAND
IMPROVEMENT IN FINANCES [from our own correspondent] WJIANGAREI, Tuesday The annual general meeting of the Whangarei Municipal Band was held last evening, the president, Mr. St. Clair Jounneaux, presiding over a large attendance. The report and balance-sheet showed that the financial position of band had improved by £SO. The election of officers resulted:— Patron, Mr. J. G. Barclay, M.P.; president, Mr. St. Clair Jounneaux; vicepresidents, Messrs. W. Jones and P. H. Basley; bandmaster, Mr. H. Salmon; band sergeant, Air. A. Purchase; band corporal, Mr. I). Boreham; secretary and treasurer, Mr. H. Flcwellyn; custodian and librarian, Mr. A. Robinson; drum-major, Mr. H. Patterson; drill instructor, Mr. R. Barnes; auditor, Mr. H. W. Crawford; committee, Messrs. H. Salmon, 11. Barnes, H. Patterson and Foster, together with the four Borough Council representatives.
Mr. L. A. Johnson was elected a life member in recognition of his long service as president and vice-president. A resolution of appreciation of the services rendered by the conductor, Mr. A. Dobson, especially with regard to the training of the junior band, wns carried.
