DRIVER SENT FOR TRIAL
CRASH INTO COFFEE STALL CHARGE OF INTOXICATION [by TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] CHKISTCHURCH, Tuesday A charge that, while intoxicated in charge of a motor-car in Armagh Street on July 12, ho caused bodily harm to Hoy Tenteden Frazer, was preferred against James Robert Pirie, salesman, in the Christchurch Police Court to-day. The alleged offence arose out of a motorcar crashing into a coffee stall at the side of the street at 12.15 a.m. Frazer, who was in the stall, suffered a compound fracture of the left leg and severe shock. His evidence in the case was taken by the magistrate at the hospital. Witnesses to-day stated that the speed of accused's car was from 25 to 35 miles an hour, and that the speed did not slacken until the car struck the coffee stall. The weather was very clear. Police witnesses and Dr. Scott, who examined him, said accused was certainly intoxicated.
Accused was committed to the Supreme Court for trial.
