OVERSEAS ATHLETES
TOUR BY JAPANESE TEAM NEGOTIATIONS TO TAKE PLACE [BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION] WELLINGTON, Tuesday Tentative suggestions for a tour by overseas athletes in 1937 were made by a special sub-committee in a report to the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association to-night, and the council decided to open negotiations with New South Wales immediately. The sub-committee favoured joining with New South Wales in having a tour by Japanese athletes next February, appearances to be limited to the four main centres. The possibility was suggested of arranging for Jack Metcalfe to come to Now Zealand to compete against the Japanese at Auckland or Wellington.
The application of tho Canterbury centre for recognition of tho performance of V. P. Boot in running 880 yards in lin 53 2-5s on March 24 as a record was declined. The council previously deferred the application until further information was received from Canterbury, and the secretary, Mr. H. MoCormiC'k, reported to-night that although he had again written he had received no roply..
