SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP FAST MATCHES WITNESSED MOUNT ALBERT DEFEATED Fast ancl open football was a feature of the fifth series of matches in the i-emnd round of the Auckland litiohy Leagues senior championship, ■which was played at Car law Park on Saturday under good conditions. In the principal contest the Manukau team thrilled the spectators with some clever play and defeated Mount. Albert, the leading team. Hemi made a re-appearance with Manukau after having to stand down for several weeks owing to an injury. He was in excellent kicking form arid kicked threo penalty goals and converted a try. An even curtain-raiser between Devonport and City resulted in a draw. The chief match on the No. 2 ground was fought between Ponton by and Marist, the former taking the honours by a single point'. In the curtain-raiser Richmond beat Newton by a good margin.
Richmond is now leading in tho championship by one point from Manuknu and Mount Albert, which aro equal in second position. Devonport follows with, 14 points. The flags were flown at half-mast owing to the death of Mrs. E. J. Phelan. Results of senior matches were as follows: —
Manukau, 11; Mount Albert, 6. City, 8; Devonport, S. Ponsonby, 9; Marist. S. Richmond, 22; Newton, 6.
