Mrs. D. Riddiford, of Fcathorston, is visiting Auckland. .Miss P. Luxford, Devonport, is the guest of Mrs. D. Sykes, New Plymouth. Mrs. F. H. Chapman, of New Plymouth, is spending a holiday in Auckland. Miss V. Hynesreturned to Christchurch at the wecfy-end after a visit to Rotorua. Miss Ruth Kirkbride, of Mangere, returned yesterday from a visit to the South Island. At the Royal Hotel are: —Miss .13. E. Ratten (Hamilton) and Miss Brazier (Wellington). Mrs. G. 11. Stephenson and Mrs. Mark James, of New Plymouth, arc visiting Auckland. At the Hotel Titirnngi are: —Mrs. J. Cole (Epsom), Mrs. 10. C. Bond (Remuera) and Miss Ronayne. Mrs. E. A. Youens, of 1 Quent Avenue, Mount Roskill, will return by ! the Wanganella from a visit to Ausi tralia. I Mrs. McGregor Grant, of Rcmuera I Road, who has been in Wellington for the winter races, will return to Auckland this morning. Mrs. G. H. Letherby and Miss N. Lctherbv, Rata Road, Devonport, will | leave to-morrow by the Wanganella lor I Sydney and the islands. At the Station Hotel are Mrs. E. Roberton (Tahora), Mrs. 1). S. Morris (Stratford), Mrs. A. M. Chiyers (Christchurch), Miss M. G. Printz (Buckley, United States). Miss Barbara Thorne George, of Remuera, will leave on Wednesday on a visit to Dunedin and afterwards Christchurch, where she will be the guest of Mrs. Graham Brown Douglas. Ihe Auckland Free Kindergarten Association will this morning open a new branch at Eden Park, where the Eden Cricket Club has kindly made its 'pavilion available for the purpose. The branch will be in the charge of Mrs. Helen Moore, the supervisor of the association's work. The Women's Progress Club met on Wednesday afternoon. There was a, good attendance of members and friends, over whom Mrs. C. Dickens presided. Mrs. Lewin gave an interesting talk on the significance of numbers. Hostesses for afternoon tea were Mesdames Bull, Pearco, Green and Rutledge.

Mrs. P. Asscr (Auckland) came to England to meet her daughter, Mrs. Struan Watson, of Bombay, wrote our London correspondent on June 17. She will visit her husband's relatives in the South of England. Mrs. Asser has booked her return passage by the Strathnavcr, leaving on October 2, and calling at Bombay en route. Mrs. Watson hopes to pay a short visit to New Zealand with her husband in 1938.

Over CO people were present at a social held by the Presbyterians of the Kiwitahi district in the Kiwitahi Hall last week. Under the direction of the Rev. G. A. Naylor a succession of games was provided. Pianolorte duets were plavcd by Misses 13. Cunningham and J. liagnail, and other items were songs by Mr. Naylor, Mr. Marwood, Mrs. It. Cunningham, and vocal duets by Misses B. and F. Cunningham.

A very enjoyable afternoon was spent at tlie homo of Mr. and Mrs. G. Scurr, Starrtown, Huntly, when the members of the Huntly Boy Scouts committee and cubs met to farewell Mr. and Mrs. E. Burrell, who have now left the district to reside in Auckland. Mr and Mrs. Burrell have been associated with the local club since it was formed five years ago, Mr. Burrell being scoutmaster and Mrs. Burrell, cub-mistress. On behalf of the members. the president. Mr. G. Scurr. made a presentation to Mr. and Mrs. Burrell of a handsome clock", suitably inscribed.

Miss E. Gwendoline Lawry, daughter of the Rev. A. C. Lawry, of Christchurch, arrived in Auckland on Friday hv the Monterey on her return from a visit to England. Miss Lawry, who has been absent from the Dominion for about 16 months, left England by the Queen Mary for New York, joining the Monterey at Los Angeles for Auckland. Miss Lawry saw the silver jubilee procession in London and also witnessed the funeral procession of the late King George. In addition to touring England and Scotland, she also visited Paris.
