The Smuggler and Clarion Call were responsible for most of the pace-making from Travelling Agent, Black Marlin, Journet and Ihiaform. Six furlongs from homo Travelling Agent closed on the leaders and ho was in command at the half-mile, to lead into the straight from Black Marlin, Ruaform and Clarion Call. Travelling Agent jumped the last fence well and dre.v away to score easily from Black Marlin, who ran on very gamely. Ruaform was a moderate third and Clarion Call was fourth, ahead of Bed Sun, The Smuggler and Journet. Travelling Agent's form was good and Black Marlin ran right up to his best. The Smuggler was beaten half a milo from home, after forcing the pace with Clarion Call, who also tired. Another favourite, Epris, gained a decisive victory in the Winter Oats Handicap. Alchemic was first out from Adalcno, who soon took the lead from Slippery, Alchemic, Kpris, Royal Gallant and Arctic King. Entering the straight Adalene was in charge from Alchemic, Kpris, Arctic Iviug, Royal Gallant and Carfex. Below the distanco Kpris came fast on the outside, to win from Adalene, who lasted long enough to defeat Horowhenua for second Alchemic was close up, fourth, succeeded by Royal Gallant, Arctic King and Korero. Kpris was always well placed and ran on brilliantly iwiion the straight was reached. Adalene registered her third minor placing at the meeting. Tho Waikato sprinter, Royal Dance, won the Onslow Handicap at a good price. The favourite, Dollar liill, gave a deal of trouble at the start and eventually got away badly.
