AKARANA CLUB'S CONTEST A race for sailing dinghies was held by the Aknrana Yacht Club on Saturday afternoon, starting and finishing off the clubhouse. Three boats, Kenya Pup, Pal and Flying Dutchman, faced the starter, and were sent away at 3.9 p.m. in a light southerly breeze. It was a ran lo the ('oinpass dolphin, and on tho way to the dolphin Pal passed Kenya Pup, making the turn 55 seconds ahead of her rival, which was 45 seconds in front of Flying Dutchman. Very slow progress was made to tho Resolution buoy, owing to the strong ebb tide and light wind. Pal rounded the buoy nt 3h 20m 58s, but Kenya Pup and Flying Dutchman were unable to make it until Pal had actually completed two rounds of the course. The times on the completion of the first round were:—Pal, 3h 35m 455; Flying Dutchman, -lb 7m 51s; Kenya Pup, 4h 8m 20s. Pal (scr) completed the course alone at 3h 50m 475. Both Kenya Pup (3%m) and Flying Dutchman dm 20s) retired In the first round. The result on corrected times was:—Pal, 1. Mr. T. McKnigbt was in charge of the racing.
