MERCURY BAY BALL
Probably never before in Mercury Bav has there been such a large and representative gathering as that which assembled in the Mercury Bay Hall on Thursday evening when a reception ball in honour of Mr. James Thorn, M.P., was held by tho Mercury Bay branch of the New Zealand Labour Party. The citizens' welcome committee, with Mr J. G. Brown as chairman, welcomed the guest of honour. After several speeches had been made, including one by Mr. Thorn, supper was served and dancing followed. Prizes for competition dances were awarded to Mr. and Mrs. C. Lowe and Mr. McCabe and Mrs. C. Forster. Winners of a cake competition were Mr. Arthur Simpson 1, and Miss P. Maitland, 2.
