BROADCASTS IN ENGLISH
Sir.—Many listeners would surely foci as disappointed as the writer was on Sunday afternoon. I switched on my radio in the hope that the vocal music might not bo in French or German. Much to my gratification I hoard the announcer saying that an outstanding performance of the opera "Merry Wives of Windsor" was about to commence, so [ settled down to enjoy it. My worst fears were confirmed, however, as this English opera was in German. i tried another station, only to hear a baritone singing in French. 1 still had one more station possible in daytime, and there I heard an Italian tenor. I happen to he one of the majority of listeners who desire to hear and understand the words of vocal music. The Sunday morning session is usually delightful, but so is gardening, and the suggestion I wish to make is that those who understand German and French be entertained in the morning, and that the present Sunday morning typo of programme fie given in the afternoon, thus satisfying those who have quite ordinary tastes and are also Sunday morning gardeners. Dad.
