As a curtain-raiser leading players will take part in a match which will be watched by the three New Zealand selectors, Messrs. T. A. McCl.vniont, 11. Avery and J. Amos. The best, players in New Zealand will be seen in action and their form will be keenly followed in view of the selection of the Dominion team to meet England in the first test match at Carlaw Park on August S. It is a long time since sucii an array of talent has been brought together and some brilliant play is anticipated. The match to-morrow will be the II th which has been played between the North and South Islands, in previous encounters North has been successful 011 eight occasions, South has won one game, while one has been drawn. North has scored 28 J points to South's 168. Both teams to-morrow will include .several players who have gained inter-Island honours for the first time. Dempsey, Haslam, Staphs. Conian, Pickrang, Sathorley, Coutts, Morgan and Anderson will make their first appearance for the North. Anderson played for the South Island last year. Among the South backs McCarthy is the only player who has played previously. All the South forwards have taken part before with the exception of Smith. Strong forwards The South pack is again a strong one and its prowess is well known to Auekiandors It made a great effort last, year to win the match in the second spell and failed only by one point. C'akler, McKneight and Glynn are line types of forwards and all round the North vanguard will be faced with very strong opposition. 111 past years the South backs have nor, impressed greatly in team play, but the inside men for to-morrow s match are said to be dangerous with reasonable opportunities. McCarthy, halfback, played a sound game last year. Garrett, live-oigluhs, who is only li) years of age, is reported to be one of the most brilliant backs South has produced for many years. Vincent, his partner, who usually plays at halt, is u former Canterbury and West Coast Hug by representative in that position. The tljreequai ter line contains promising material. Davison is fast and an outstanding place-kick. Ritchie, the fullback, gains a place owing to Standeven, Canterbury, last season's custodian, being not available. 'The North forwards are also strong and good in the loose, but every ounce of weight will be necessary in the tight play to hold the visiting vanguard. Pickrang, Satherley, Morgan, Anderson and 'l'etley, all of Auckland, have been outstanding in club games this season. Coutts, Wellington, was the best forward 011 the ground in the recent representative match against Auckland. Fast Rearguard

I North will field a fast back lino, which r will be hard to keep out if it re- ' wives a fair share of the ball. Denip--5 sey has played well during the past lew ! seasons, while the wings, Brown and ' Bright, aro both speedy and tricky. ' Haslam, a former Auckland Rugby rep- ; i-esentiitive, is a clever attacking player, i being a strong runner and very sound ! 011 defence. Staples, who weighs over ' j 13st., conu;s from Napier and his form 1 will be watched with interest. Tittleton is in good form and lias previously represented New Zealand. Coman, WellI ington, is a fine attacking half and \ sends out splendid passes from the . scrum. Judged all round a great match should result and the hooking of the ball should play a large part.
