MUNITIONS FOR CHINA

AGREEMENT WITH GERMANY JAPAN ENTERS PROTEST Timrs Cable LONDON, July 5 The Tokio correspondent of the Times says the Japanese Ambassador in Berlin has protested to the German Government regarding a. Sino-German agreement for the sale of arms to China. He has pointed out that the agreement conflicts with the Treaty of Versailles and is likely to impair Japan's existing friendly relations with Germany, especially as Japan is opposed to the sale of arms to China. The German Foreign Office has replied that the agreement is only intended to promote Sino-German trade. Japanese correspondents in China declare that under the agreement Germany undertakes to provide China with a large quantity of munitions, including anti-aircraft guns, mortars and tanks and to accept payment over four to six years in raw materials.
