SHOPLIFTING CHARGE
WOMAN TO PAY £4 FINE "NOT A SUDDEN IMPULSE" The theft of various articles valued at 13s 6d from a Queen Street store on Saturday was admitted in the Police Court yesterday by Sylvia Florence Sharman, a domestic, aged 35.
Senior-Detective Hall said that after she had made two or three purchases accused's actions attracted the attention of several employees, and she was seen to put some face powder in her pocket. Other articles were found on her when she was searched. She was a widow and appeared to be in straitened circumstances.
A fine of £1 or 14 days' imprisonpient was imposed. "You don't deserve any consideration," said the magistrate, Mr. W. R. McKean, when accused asked for time to pay. "This was not a sudden impulse; you made up your mind to take these things." Accused was allowed until Friday in which to pay.
