LOCAL FRUIT MARKET
REGULATION SOUGHT
OTAGO GROWERS' VIEWS
[BT TELEGRAPH —OWN CORRESPONDENT] DUNEDIN, Saturday
Local marketing was discussed at a conference of Ota go provincial fruitgrowers at Alexandra this morning. The following resolution was carried: —
"That this conference is of opinion that action in connection with local marketing is urgently necessary, otherwise a great many fruitgrowers are faced with bankruptcy. It recommends that definite compulsory standards be fixed for the sale of fruit on the local market; that distribution be controlled either by cool storage or in any other way; that as local marketing of dairy produce has been taken over by the Marketing Department the fruitgrowers claim that they are justly entitled to the same protection and urge that this be done by setting up a minimum price based on the actual cost of production."
