YOUNG FARMERS
AUCKLAND CLUS'S PROGRESS FOURTH YEAR COMPLETED Appreciation of the assistance and inspiration given by those directly and indirectly associated with the Auckland Young Farmers' Club, in their endeavour to stimulate rural interests among its members, was expressed at the club's fourth annual meeting yesterday by its junior president, Master T. H. Muir. Steady progress during the past year was recorded in the report, which stated that there was still much room for expansion in present enterprises and the development of activities among the young farmers of the district. While the present organisation operated among past and present pupils of the Otahuhu Technical High School, it was intended to extend its privileges to all young men between 18 and 25 years of age who were interested in farming. Flowers and produce grown in the school grounds had been exhibited with some success, the report added. Over 30• keen beekeepers now received fortnightly instruction, and several members were studying the methods of feeding for high-class bacon and pork carcases. The establishment of a technical agricultural library at the school, in addition to the donation of books on agricultural subjects, was proving beneficial. " Farming offers good opportunities for keen and efficient boys," said the chairman. Mr. J. Clark, who urged interested young men to join the club and attend demonstrations at selected farms. Mr. F. W. Martin, principal of the school, said the club was definitely interested in all young men who were undertaking rural pursuits, and while it trained boys at school, it desired to assist them after their school days. Dr. W. S. Hill, secretary, urged members to avail themselves of the club's free-of-interest loans to develop their home projects by purchasing the best, plants and livestock. Officers were elected as follows: Patron, Sir James Parr; vice-patrons, Messrs. W. J. Jordan, M.P., S. Austin Carr and W. T. Collins; president, Mr. T. U. Wells; committee, Messrs. J. Clark, chairman, C. R. Petrie, M.P., R. Kimpton, F. W. Martin, A. Muir. F. G. Massey and W. W. Massev, and Master T. H. Muir; honorary secretary and treasurer, Dr. \V, S. Hill.
