3s 3d A CAR PROFIT
CANADIAN HARDSHIPS A statement recently presented to the Canadian Government by representatives of the motor manufacturers of that country, showed that an average profit of only 3s 3d per car is all the Canadian plants aro able to realise under the latest tariff, which lowered the duty on cars brought over the border from the United States. A detailed inquiry was promised, but the impression in Montreal is that, having in the trade agreement reduced the tariff on American cars, the Canadian Government will not turn around and increase it. Probably compensation will bo extended to the Canadian motor manufacturers by placing on tho free list a largo number of car parts which are not made in Canada.
