FLOODING CARBURETTER
SOME LIKELY FAULTS POINTS TO WATCH After two or three years' service it is not uncommon to find that the carburetter tends to flood. This is most likely due to a faulty seating for the needle valve, wear in the toggles and the balance weights which govern the position of the float, or to an actual puncture in the float. The needle can be ground in by using a little metal polish on the seating, and swivelling by the fingers. Make sure also that there are no tiny flecks of dirt or fluff. If the toggles show signs of wear there is not much that can be done beyond replacing them. It might just be possible to alter the position of the collar which controls them, on the needle, shifting it a little higher so that the balance weights fall and keep the float level down. To locate a puncture in a float it is necessary to immerse the float in hot water and the defective point will be indicated by bubbles of air being forced out.
