AUCKLAND TROTTING CLUB NOMINATIONS CLOSE TO-DAY Nominations for all events for the Auckland Trotting Club's Winter Meeting, to be held on June 20 and 23, also entries for the Great Northern Trotting Derby of 1937-38, close with the secretary, Mr. A. G. Mabee, . today at 5 p.m. j ENGLISH PONY RACING JOCKEY CLUB APPREHENSIVE Northolt Park and Portsmouth Park are tho centres of pony racing in England and very large attendances have assisted at meetings on the former course, on which tho prize-money last year was £-12,670 and the totalisator turnover £433,246. T ho Northolt Derby is worth £IOSO. On the face of these figures the future of pony racing in England would appear to be bright, but a writer in tho London Observer says that the Jockey Club is apprehensive that the lino between pony racing and racing under Jockey Club rules is not being sufficiently demarcated. Tho governing body has accorded the Pony Turf Club official recognition in.that the disqualifications of the latter body hold good on other racecourses, but sonio important points have been raised by the Jockey Club which, if not met, may cause its attitude to the Pony lurf Club to ho reconsidered. The stewards of the Jockey Club contend that there should be no more two-year-old racing of ponies and that the "standard of height should bo reduced from 15 hands to 14.3. The question of fixtures has also been raised, but the other matters are considerably graver. It is understood that two-year-old racing forms a substantial part of the Northolt programmes.
