LARGE MOTOR SALES

INCREASE IN AUSTRALIA STATE FIGURES COMPARED [from our own correspondent] SYDNEY. May 27 The number of new motor-cars and trucks sold throughout Australia in the first three months of this year exceeded the number sold for the full •rear of 1932. Calculations by trade bodies show that for every new vehicle sold approximately two used vehicles change hands, which means that in the first three months of 1936 about 52,000 new and used motor vehicles were sold.

Sales of new cars to March 31 this year amounted to 13.157, which is an increase of 65.5 per rent on new cars sold during the first quarter of 1935; and 1356 commercial vehicles were put into service, a gain of 20.7 per cent on the figures for the same period last vcar. riic total of 17,513 new cars and trucks for this three months' period is greater than the total for the whole of 1932. when only 14,098 units were put into service. Analysing the figures for the various States, registrations fbr the first three months of 1936 were made up as follows, trucks being given in parentheses: —New South Wales, 5290 (1578); Victoria, 4220 (1269); Queensland, 1676 (780); South Australia, 1158 (438); Western Australia, 438 (136); Tasmania, 375 (155).
